NEWS! Seven New MSO Records Established The archery event held Sept. 28 at the Genesse Valley Outdoor Center in Parkton brought together a familiar group of MSO gold medalists and recordholders, and the overcast day ultimately evolved into a great competition as seven new state records were established. The best race for medals occurred in the men's 65-69 compound release, where Ray May leaped from a bronze in 2006 to a gold by defeating Larry Hix and Jerry Powers. May's 885 score bested Hix's 884 set in 2004, and Hix won silver this year by one point over Powers, silver medalist in 2006. Another interesting storyline was MSO veteran Vicki Clem losing a 10-year-old mark in the women's 55-59 compound release only to set a new record in the 65-69 age group that was also 10 years old. Faye Wise's 861 snapped Clem's mark set in 1998; undeterred (if not determined), Clem's 857 shattered Mary Sands' 1998 record of 803. It was that sort of day for old records. Ted Light's 806 score in the men's 60-64 recurve topped David Jackson's 1999 record of 799; and Tom Coblenz defended his gold medal in the men's 60-64 compound release by scoring 890, topping Hix's 2000 record of 887. Richard Paschke's 776 bested Raleigh Clark's 757 recurve standard also in 1999 and Susan Weinstein shattered Ms. Wise's 2004 mark of 842 in the women's compound release by scoring an 885. That mark topped all but two men's scores in that event. Other repeat gold medalists were James Worrill in men's 65-69 compound fingers; Ron Thompson, moving up to men's 70-74 in compound fingers; and Gwen McMurray (60-64) and Winnie Paris (75-79) in women's compound release. And, Bob Peterson leaped from a bronze in the 2006 men's 55-59 compound release to a gold medal. 2008 Archery Results Men’s 60-64 65-69 70-74 Compound Release 60-64 65-69 70-74 Compound Fingers 55-59 65-69 70-74 Women’s 55-59 60-64 65-69 75-79
