Whatta Team! MedStar SportsHealth, MSO Athletes
As a Maryland Senior Olympian, you’re training to compete against the best, so you’ll need access to the best—the best sports medicine physicians, the best athletic trainers and the best nutritionists in the area.

For more than 30 years, the sports medicine specialists at MedStar SportsHealth have cared for athletes from the NFL, NBA, NHL, PGA, MISL and MLB. Presently, MedStar SportsHealth provides sports medicine services to the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Blast, Baltimore Blackbirds, D.C. Divas woman’s professional football, Washington Freedom woman’s professional soccer, Washington Ballet, Cirque du Soliel, Georgetown Hoyas, UMBC Retrievers, Loyola College Greyhounds, Ripken Baseball, Constellation Energy Classic Senior Professional Golf Tour, Coppin State Eagles, Goucher College Gophers, Morgan State Bears, Harford, Howard, Dundalk, Essex and Catonsville Community colleges, Maryland Polo Club and the Baltimore Sports & Social Club.

So what does all this mean to Maryland Senior Olympians?
It means that for the first time, Maryland Senior Olympians now have access to one of the most comprehensive sports medicine providers on the east coast. Should you become injured while training, or you need a physician, or you need to talk to a Certified Athletic Trainer about your training, or you’re experiencing an abnormal ache or pain, MedStar SportsHealth is available to help you.

In addition, representing MedStar SportsHealth as the consulting sports medicine physician for the Maryland Senior Olympics is Dr. Michael Niehoff from Franklin Square Hospital Center. Dr. Niehoff will be available to assist you during the year with issues relating to senior health and/or other medical concerns.

If you need to contact Dr. Niehoff, he may be contacted at 443-777-2008. Dr. Niehoff will also serve as coordinator for injury surveillance during “high risk” Senior Olympics events.

How can I take advantage of the services that MedStar SportsHealth provides?

It’s that easy! Call 1-888-44-SPORT, that’s the MedStar SportsHealth access line to talk to an athletic trainer, get a referral to a sports medicine specialist in your area, or request a MedStar SportsHealth ID card.

What’s a MedStar SportsHealth ID card?
Should you ever suffer an injury while training, or you just have an accident, you’ll need quick access to the best care available. This is where the MedStar SportsHealth ID card can help.

You now have access to any one of the six emergency rooms in the MedStar Health network:

Baltimore area—Union Memorial, Harbor, Good Samaritan and Franklin Square Hospitals;

Washington area—Washington Hospital Center, Montgomery General Hospital and Georgetown University Hospital.

Simply call the number of the closest MedStar hospital to your home, (located on the back of your ID card) and let the staff member know you are coming in. Once at the emergency room, present your MedStar SportsHealth ID card to the emergency room registrar. The staff will do their very best to have your condition diagnosed and treated accurately and promptly.

Your ID card will notify the emergency room staff that you are a participant in the Maryland Senior Olympics. Therefore, as one of MedStar SportsHealth senior athletes, you will be treated promptly and with the utmost care.

After all, the goal of MedStar SportsHealth is to help get you back in the game again! But please understand that the purpose of the MedStar SportsHealth ID card is not to move you ahead of any individuals who may be suffering a more serious condition.
