NEWS! Racquetball Results 2008 The racquetball event held Oct. 7 at the Supreme Sports Club in Columbia had an interesting dynamic. Several of MSO's veteran players moved up age groups, creating new competitions while re-energizing some former gold medalists. The best competition came in the men's 60-64 age group as Ronald Maxemchuk of Upper Marlboro won his first gold medal since 2003 by defeating the 2006 winner in the 55-59 group, William Baity of Bowie. Joseph Federman of Silver Spring captured bronze but not without a battle from Norbert Myslinski of Ellicott City. Tim Hoover of Hagerstown, 2006 silver medalist in the 50-54, moved up an age group to win gold, as did Dick Fiorentini of Baltimore in the 70-74 bracket. It was Mr. Fiorentini's second gold of the season; he was also medalist of the 70-74 men's golf division. Carson Banks of Bowie took home two gold medals. Advancing to the 80-84 division, he captured the singles title and teamed up again with Clark Glenn of Ft. Washington for a doubles gold. They were also age-group winners at the 2006 Games. We had a poor turnout of women participants this year but that did not stop two champions from facing off in order to qualify for Nationals. Susan Cunningham (50-54) of Waldorf defeated Claudette Braswell (70-74) of Upper Marlboro. For Ms. Braswell, it is her fourth straight gold title. Ms. Cunningham won the gold in 2004. Men’s 55-59 60-64 65-69 70-74 75-79 80-84 Doubles 70-84 Women’s 70-74
