NEWS!
Throwing Skills Results, 2009
If you ever needed to throw out a runner at the plate or make that Hail Mary come to pass, James Kenney of White Plains and Nancy Callan of Silver Spring are your wings and prayers. MSO's most profilic chuckers of footballs and softballs continued their dominance in the throwing competition, setting three of the four new records in this year's events.

In the football throw, Ms. Callan broke her 2008 record of 62 feet, 9 inches in the women's 75-79 age group with a toss of 67-8, or the equivalent of a 23-yard slant play across the middle. However, she didn't have to worry about any linebackers.

Herbert Sauber of Woodstock set the new standard in the 85-and-up age group by throwing the football 78-9, eclipsing Allen Rosen's 2008 mark of 61-11. Bernie Fowler's 71-8 would have been a big winner any other year, but this season he settles for a silver medal.

In the softball throw, Mr. Kenney just missed his third age-group record by throwing 211 feet, 7 inches in the 65-69, falling short of the mark of 213-4 by Alan Reffkin in 2001. Mr. Kenney has held the 55-59 record of 234-10 since 2000 and 230-00 in 60-64 since 2002.

Ms. Callan and Ms. Dashiell also improved marks they achieved in 2008. Ms. Callan added just over 5 feet to her softball record for a 96-00. Ms. Dashiell also bumped up her standard by 3 feet, 1 inch for a 51-01.

This year, MSO held a Frisbee-toss competition. This is not a National Senior Games event but we thought participants might enjoy the competition. We were right. Although no records are being kept in the Frisbee toss, we did hand out medals. The results are also on this page.
