The day will conclude with a pot luck dinner and awards ceremony.

Hockey players aged 50 and older can register as individuals and teams will be chosen to insure the teams are evenly matched. This format was used last year with three competitive non-checking games
by hockey players. A few former pros also participated.

In figure skating, the emphasis again is on participation. Linda Monney, the coordinator of the figure skating games, says, “We are focusing on the beginner skater with a beginning-level competition. If you can skate across the rink or skate backwards, you can compete. We are trying to get grandparents out of the bleachers and skating with their children and grandchildren.”

The Piney Orchard and Glen Burnie Ice Rinks in Anne Arundel County are forming group lessons geared to the senior skater. At the Piney Orchard Ice Arena, Ms. Monney will offer half-price lessons to eligible seniors. Contact Ms. Monney at 410-672-7013 or Google the Piney Orchard Icea Arena online.

The curling event is being held at the National Capital Curling Center next to the Gardens Ice House. Registration is $15 and includes a basic introduction to curling lesson and two games. It will give seniors enough training so they can understand the basics of curling while also watching the Winter Olympics being held in Vancouver.
